Mala LaCroix sees dead people—really. After using her psychic gifts to catch a killer, she's locked in a psych ward and must strike a deal with the devil to secure her release. Apprenticed to a dark arts practitioner, Mala vows to free herself and save her loved ones from danger. But she doesn't know who to turn to when her crush on Landry Prince turns into something more serious.
A FATE WORSE THAN DEATH
Landry has sacrificed everything to protect Mala. A near-death experience changes him forever, and now he, too, possesses supernatural powers he doesn't understand. Mala and Landry must band together to defeat the dark forces—both human and otherworldly—who would use their abilities for evil. Even as they fall for each other, they must prepare to battle for their very souls . . .

The second book is just as thrilling as the first. Very little down time in the storyline and at that point the romance really heats up!
Both Landry and Mala are lucky to be alive after the events in the first book and it really takes a hit on both of them very hard. Mala's visions are worse and she looses herself into them completely. Landry's health is slowly fading and his ability to astro project is getting stronger and happening more often.
Mala wants to stay in her home, even with the fire damage. Landry has no where to go and finds comfort with Mala after his release from the hospital. Yet, Mala's aunt is still persistent that she comes to live with her in New Orleans and learn to skill her magic abilities.
There are more characters that come into play in the second novel as the mystery of the town attack on Mala's house is being looked into and more town secrets come into fruition.
Although it plays into the plot, I was a little disappointed in Landry's personality change in this book. He becomes very insecure and paranoid. Mala, now being more comfortable with Landry becomes more open and vulnerable, yet still hard to break through Landry's walls he's built.
What I love about this series is the non stop plot and twists. There is little to no down time and constant developments. With the addition of new characters the story becomes more intense with new dangers. Mala gets pulled into the action because of her abilities and to a point she feels partly responsible.
Very well written, exciting setting and storylines. I especially like the characters of Mala and Landry, they have a great connection.
