 So that first picture is kinda freaky right? kids with white masks over their faces brings back memories of a scary film I once watched called The Orphanage. I was of course fascinated with the pictures this book contains as well and a little hesitant on what the story would bring. I was ecstatic when I finally got the physical copy in my hands. Realizing how well this book is actually made I was highly recommending to all my friends to buy the physical book instead of the kindle or audio versions because of how nice this book is made. Under the cover (which fits the book tightly and does not slide off!) the cover is cloth with Miss Peregrine's signature on the cover, the side is made to look like a fancy old fashioned cloth made book. And what I personally enjoyed the most was that the book looks sewn together instead of glued, and you get several of these awesomely freaky pictures throughout.
After immensely enjoying reading the story I decided on a whim to check out the audio while at work one day and found that to be a mistake (maybe in my boss' eyes) because little did I know that I would become so involved in listening to the audio I slacked on my work =0 The narrator did a fantastic job and you can check out a snippet HERE
The story did not freak me out as much as I thought it might and had some surprising twists in it that I never expected (like time travel) and some I did like creepy kids that have paranormal gifts.
It all starts with Jacob's grandpa Porter telling stories of his youth in the orphanage that housed peculiar children. They were watched over by the "old bird" from the dangerous monsters "awful hunched-over ones with rotting skin and black eyes." He would show Jacob photos of the peculiar children who could lift boulders, hover, had mouths in the back of their heads and several more. Grandpa would also get a little scary with his stories, that he would have to fight the monsters and in his old age became very paranoid and dies suddenly and tragically one day. Jacob has trouble dealing with what he saw in the woods after he found his grandfather and he himself has trouble coping. Jacob has to find the answers to his grandfathers life, and his death. Only the orphanage can hold the answers Jacob seeks.
With the intermittent photos throughout the book, it turned out to be a very fast read for me. It was entertaining and surprising. I found myself staring at the photos longer than it took me to read the pages *very fascinating!. It was one of the  most entertaining books I have read this year. A murder mystery with time travel and a little romance? Yes Please!

I have not checked out an ebook copy yet, but you cannot go wrong with the physical copy or the audio in my opinion.
