13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson

When Ginny receives thirteen little blue envelopes and instructions to buy a plane ticket to London, she knows something exciting is going to happen. What Ginny doesn't know is that she will have the adventure of her life and it will change her in more ways than one. Life and love are waiting for her across the Atlantic, and the thirteen little blue envelopes are the key to finding them in this funny, romantic, heartbreaking novel.

I have to admit, I want this to be me really badly. Although I of course would not want somebody to die to have that happen but this would kinda be my dream vacation. Although I would of course do things differently. Ginny spends some of her time traveling in what I thought was not a very good use of time, I mean your in Europe girl! You have money and adventure ahead of you and you spend too much time just wandering. I totally would have taken advantage of any extra time to visit more landmarks and shopping (yes I know the 2nd is technically not allowed in the rules of the story..but I would)
I thought this was a very cute story, and pretty accurate. You will meet all kinds of people  when traveling and most countries do have a high amount of English speaking residents to help you out. I really wanted to see Ginny open up a little more, she seemed so timid and scared, but that is also a bit hypocritical of me because I am also very intimidated by new people and unfamiliar places. Oh and forgetting to wash your clothes..ew that would have been a high priority for me.
I really enjoyed her story, it was a fast read and something that is near and dear to my heart..traveling. She did not spend enough time in Rome! Saw plenty of sites in the Netherlands, needed more site seeing in London. Oh the things I imagined her doing while taking reading breaks. The perfect vacation book.

I also reviewed the audiobook. I think I did enjoy it better than physically reading it except the accents of the different people Ginny met, especially for the main boy interest. For some reason I just didn't feel the accent fit his description in the book. I have seen other reviews in which readers had trouble reading the physical book because of the way it is written, and I would in those cases recommend the audiobook, it was worth it!

  1. I read this a few years ago and thought it was really cute too. My sister has it and I'm trying to convince her to buy the next one so we can read it :)
