Book Review: The Marked Son by Shea Berkley

Seventeen-year-old Dylan Kennedy always knew something was different about him, but until his mother abandoned him in the middle of Oregon with grandparents he's never met, he had no idea what.

When Dylan sees a girl in white in the woods behind his grandparents' farm, he knows he's seen her before...in his dreams. He's felt her fear. Heard her insistence that only he can save her world from an evil lord who uses magic and fear to feed his greed for power.

Unable to shake the unearthly pull to Kera, Dylan takes her hand. Either he's completely insane or he's about to have the adventure of his life, because where they're going is full of creatures he's only read about in horror stories. Worse, the human blood in his veins has Dylan marked for death...

I did go into this book a little nervous about the whole seeing a girl in his dreams and then she comes to life theme because I have read it before. What I think was different about this one is that the girl comes from a different place.
I really enjoy reading books from the boys perspective, it is such a nice way to change up the reading stack. There are some sections told form Kera's perspective but as she is from a different place the reading style changes between the two until they meet and their stories meld together.
There is a lot of action, adventure and magical things that happen in the story. I had a hard time actually picking a favorite character as I liked one just as much as the other. The writing style is very fluid and descriptive. I never had any difficulty in understanding the characters emotions or actions.
While the book does end with a view into what can happen in the next book, thankfully it doesn't leave us with a cliffhanger. And actually ends on a very satisfying happy note.
I give it 4 stars.

I haven't read any books where a dream girl comes to life and this sounds really good. I'm going to add it to my wish list.
